yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tyaktvā dhanañjaya siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyate

Meaning

Perform all your actions with your mind concentrated on the Divine, renouncing attachment and looking upon success and failure with an equal eye. Spirituality implies equanimity.

Understanding this verse

Simple meaning

Krishna asks Arjuna to act while staying steady, treating success and failure with the same calm. This balance of mind, samatva, is what he calls yoga. You still give your best, but your peace doesn't depend on the outcome.

In real life

A cricketer plays each ball on its merit, whether the last one went for a six or got him beaten. His steadiness makes him consistent.

An entrepreneur pitches to 20 investors. She treats each rejection and each yes with the same calm, learning from both, and doesn't burn out.

Try this today: After your next result, good or bad, ask just one question: "What did I learn?" Then move on.
