कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥
karmaṇyevādhikāraste mā phaleṣu kadācana mā karmaphalaheturbhūrmā te saṅgo'stvakarmaṇi
Meaning
But you have only the right to work, but none to the fruit of it. Let not the fruit of your action be your motive; nor be you enamored of inaction.
Simple meaning
Krishna says: you have control over your effort, not over the result. Don't let fear of, or greed for, the outcome become the reason you act, and don't use that fear as an excuse to do nothing.
In real life
A student preparing for a competitive exam stops checking cut-off predictions every day and focuses on finishing two mock tests a week. Her anxiety drops and her scores go up.
A salesperson who obsessed over monthly targets shifts focus to making ten good client calls a day. The numbers follow, and he enjoys the work again.
Try this today: Write today's goal as an action you control ("study 3 chapters"), not a result ("get 95%").
