Gita for life

Procrastination

टालमटोल

When you know what to do but can't start.

Explanations in
Bhagavad Gita 3.8 →

नियतं कुरु कर्म त्वं कर्म ज्यायो ह्यकर्मणः। शरीरयात्रापि च ते न प्रसिद्ध्येदकर्मणः॥

Do your duty as prescribed, for action for duty's sake is superior to inaction. Even the maintenance of the body would be impossible if one remained inactive.

Simple meaning

Krishna says: do the work that is yours to do. Action is better than inaction. Even keeping your own body alive isn't possible without doing something.

In real life

A writer waiting for the perfect inspiration finally commits to 300 words a day. Within two months she has a first draft.

A young person stuck at home "figuring out life" takes a part-time job meanwhile, and the action itself brings clarity about what he wants.

Try this today: Pick the task you've been avoiding the longest and do just the first 10 minutes of it today.

Bhagavad Gita 3.19 →

तस्मादसक्तः सततं कार्यं कर्म समाचर। असक्तो ह्याचरन्कर्म परमाप्नोति पूरुषः॥

Therefore, do your duty perfectly, without worrying about the results, for he who does his duty without attachment attains the Supreme.

Simple meaning

Krishna says: do your duty well, without being attached to what you'll get from it. Working this way, free from clinging, leads to the highest good.

In real life

A nurse who cares for patients wholeheartedly, without waiting for recognition, finds deep meaning in her work and rarely burns out.

A volunteer teaching underprivileged kids doesn't track praise or followers. He just shows up every Sunday, and the work itself becomes his reward.

Try this today: Do one task today fully and carefully, without telling anyone about it.
