Meaning

My heart is oppressed with pity, and my mind is confused as to what my duty is. Therefore, my Lord, tell me what is best for my spiritual welfare, for I am Your disciple. Please direct me, I pray.

Understanding this verse

Simple meaning

Arjuna, a brave and skilled warrior, openly admits he is confused and doesn't know what the right thing to do is. He stops pretending and asks Krishna for guidance. The Gita's whole teaching begins at this moment of honesty.

In real life

A final-year student can't choose between a job offer and higher studies. Instead of pretending to be sure, she tells a mentor, "I'm genuinely confused, help me think this through," and the conversation finally becomes useful.

A founder whose startup is struggling admits to his co-founder that he no longer knows the right direction. That honest admission opens the door to real solutions instead of ego-driven decisions.

Try this today: Write one honest sentence: "The thing I'm confused about is…" Then share it with one person you trust.
